Before you dig into hanging your new oak doorway, you will want to walk yourself through the steps to ensure that you have everything required, and that you can knock out any potential problems before they arise. Follow the list of steps below to run over the installation in your head.
Check The entranceway For Damage Before Hanging It – If the door contains any damage, you are going to want to make sure that you have it swapped for a good condition model before you start hanging it. This will help save you a ton of time if you have to eliminate it later because it came damaged from the manufacturer.
Remove Your Old Door, Examine Jamb runs The Increasing Brackets – Take the old door off its knobs, and examine the increasing brackets to make sure they are going to be ale to hold the weight of the new door. If they are more than 10 years old, you should replace them.
Consider Replacing The entranceway Jamb – Another area that may need to be replaced is the door jamb. If your gate is more than 10 years old, the jamb may have lost its structural integrity, which could cause problems when the weight of your new oak doorway is placed on it.
Add Shims To Level & Plumb The entranceway – After examination, if the increasing brackets and door jamb are sufficient, or have been replaced, you will need a pack of shims to properly level and plumb the entranceway. You are going to want to achieve 1/8″ to 1/4″ gap between the door and the jamb.
